DSSI (Digital Storage Systems Interconnect) was DEC's intelligent serial storage bus derived conceptually from SDI. It allowed multiple disks and tapes to share a common storage interconnect while supporting features such as distributed controllers and clustering. DSSI became especially important in VMScluster environments and appeared widely in later MicroVAX, VAXstation, and Alpha systems.
