VAXBI (usually shortened to BI bus) was a high-performance 32-bit interconnect introduced for larger VAX systems such as the VAX 8200 and VAX 8600. Unlike UNIBUS and QBUS, which were inherited from earlier PDP-11 designs, VAXBI was built specifically for the VAX architecture and supported significantly higher throughput, multiprocessing, and intelligent controllers. It was commonly used with enterprise storage and networking hardware in high-end VAX environments.
